About the practice

What therapy is like here

Therapy here isn’t about being handed a formula. It’s a space where you can say the true thing, ask anything, and move at whatever pace is right for you.

In our sessions

Approaches that fit you

There’s no single method that works for everyone, so we start with you. Along the way I draw on approaches with solid research behind them: CBT, DBT, attachment-based therapy, motivational interviewing, and psychoeducation.

You, as a person

More than what brought you in

I want to know you, not just the concern on the intake form. Your relationships, your history, your culture, the way you talk to yourself: it all matters here, and it all belongs in the room.

Therapy or coaching

Not sure which you need?

Counseling goes deeper into healing; coaching looks ahead, toward goals, habits, and next chapters. If all you know right now is that you want something to change, that’s enough to begin.

Your therapist

Hi, I’m Mariya, though you’ll probably hear me introduce myself as Masha.

It’s my Ukrainian name, and it’s the one I’ve always felt most at home with. I’m really glad you’re here.

I’m a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate and National Certified Counselor, and my favorite part of this work is watching people make sense of what they’re feeling, and then build steady, practical ways to carry it.

Ways we can work together

You don’t have to carry it alone

Therapy for you, counseling for the two of you, or coaching for what’s next. Each one begins with a simple conversation.

Individual Therapy

A confidential space to hear yourself think, to make sense of what’s been feeling heavy, and to build a life that feels like your own.

Getting started

Beginning is the hardest part

So we’ve kept it simple. Three small steps, and someone in your corner the whole way.

1

Reach out

Send me an email at Masha@elizabethcounselingandwellness.com with your name, phone number, email, and the reason you’re reaching out.

2

Free consult

We’ll talk for about 15 minutes to see how it feels and whether we’re the right fit. No pressure, no commitment.

3

Begin together

Schedule your first session and settle in. From here, we move at your pace toward what you came for.

“Healing rarely arrives all at once. Like anything worth growing, it opens slowly, steadily, and in its own good time.”

Common questions

Questions we hear a lot

If yours isn’t here, ask it in a free consult; there’s no wrong question.

How do I get started?

The easiest first step is sending me an email at Masha@elizabethcounselingandwellness.com. Include your first and last name, phone number, email, and the reason you’re reaching out. From there we’ll arrange a free 15-minute conversation, you can ask me anything, and the decision is entirely yours. Take all the time you need.

What if I don’t know exactly what I need help with?

That’s more common than you might think. Most people arrive with a feeling, not a label. Maybe something doesn’t feel quite right, or the same pattern keeps repeating, and you can’t yet say why. Naming it together is part of the work, not a requirement for starting it.

What’s the difference between therapy and coaching?

Therapy is clinical care: working with things like anxiety, low mood, relationship strain, and the patterns underneath them. Coaching doesn’t treat or diagnose anything; it’s for building toward something: a goal, a change, a next chapter.

Therapy is available to clients in North Carolina; coaching is available nationwide.

Where do sessions happen?

Both in person and virtually. In-person sessions happen at the office in Charlotte’s Elizabeth neighborhood, and virtual sessions run by secure telehealth anywhere in North Carolina. Coaching is online across the United States. Office and virtual hours are listed on the Contact page.

Where is the office located?

The office is at 1816 E 7th St, Charlotte, NC 28204, in Charlotte’s historic Elizabeth neighborhood. In-person hours are Mondays 5–8pm and Thursdays 12–8pm, and the full schedule, including virtual hours, is on the Contact page.

Do you offer sessions in a language other than English?

Yes, sessions are available in English and Russian. Ukrainian is the language of my family and my heritage; I don’t offer clinical sessions in Ukrainian at this time, but Ukrainian-speaking clients are warmly welcome to work with me in English or Russian.

What does it cost, and do you take insurance?

Individual therapy is up to $175 per session and couples counseling is $225 per session. You can ask about coaching rates at your free consult. The practice is out-of-network, but we’re glad to provide superbills you can submit to your insurer for possible reimbursement, and a limited number of sliding-scale spots are held for those who need them.

If you’re not using insurance, you’ll also receive a written Good Faith Estimate of expected costs before your first session, your right under the federal No Surprises Act.

Why is the practice called “Elizabeth”?

The practice is named for Elizabeth, the historic Charlotte neighborhood where it took root. And the bee on our crest has its own little story; you’ll find it on the About page.

What happens in a first session?

Mostly, we talk: about what’s bringing you in, what you’ve tried, and what you’d like to be different. You can share as much or as little as feels right. There’s no test to pass and no way to do it wrong; the first session is about starting to build a space where you can be honest at your own pace.

You don’t have to have everything figured out before you reach out.

Whether you’re looking for support, trying to make a change, or simply unsure what comes next, we’ll begin exactly where you are, and go gently from there.
